FLVS Case Study - Privately Held Real Estate Company
Case Study:
Citrin Cooperman assisted the owner of a university housing complex to quantify economic damages and provide expert witness testimony in a breach of contract dispute with its insurance company. Our work quantified a multi-million-dollar loss related to a fire on the property’s premises by analyzing the accounting and financial documentation to ascertain the business income loss and extra expenses as contemplated in the insurance policy. The work performed, including providing expert testimony, led to a jury verdict in favor of the client on the breach of contract claim allowing the client to recover the business income loss, the replacement cost claim, and consequential damages. After the Court’s initial decision, the case was appealed and ruled on by the United States Court of Appeals.
