Experience
Harmen Bakker is an audit partner in the firm’s New York City office. He has more than 15 years of experience in public accounting, performing such services as audits, reviews, compilations, and business consulting. He works with clients in a variety of industries, including real estate, manufacturing, film, and employee benefits.
Harmen works closely with his real estate clients to advise them on annual budget preparation, internal controls, managing capital reserves, 1031 exchanges, certiorari filings, and other various operational financial issues. He also assists his clients with preparations of GAAP, IFRS, and income tax basis financial statements. Working closely with his fellow tax partners, Harmen helps his clients navigate through the IRS regulations to ensure filing deadlines are met. His focus in real estate has been multi-family apartments, commercial buildings, storage units, and mobile homes.
Harmen plays an important role in developing Citrin Cooperman’s professional staff through recruiting, addressing the evaluation process, mentoring, and training programs.
