Citrin Cooperman Introduces the Gerald M. Lotenberg Annual Day of Service

Citrin Cooperman is proud to announce that the firm’s annual day of service has been renamed the Gerald M. Lotenberg Annual Day of Service in memory of their dear friend and partner, Gerald Milton Lotenberg, who passed away on March 13 at the age of 92.  The inaugural Gerald M. Lotenberg Annual Day of Service will take place on Monday, June 3, 2019, and annually thereafter.

Each year, all of the partners and staff of Citrin Cooperman use the day of service to do volunteer work in the communities they serve, as well as provide several hundred thousand dollars in financial support to local organizations.

“Gerry Lotenberg’s impact on our firm and our people cannot be overstated.  He was a brilliant accountant, but it was his caring for people and desire to help others that separated him from most.  Gerry was always there for everybody.  His guidance was instrumental in the firm’s ability to grow and prosper.  We are honored to be able to dedicate our annual day of service to Gerry.” said CEO and Co-Founder Joel Cooperman.

Gerald Lotenberg was born in Brooklyn in 1926. He joined Citrin Cooperman in 1989, where he served as a partner for over 20 years.  His contribution to the firm’s success cannot be overstated. He earned the nickname ‘Solomon’ for the incredible wisdom he shared with the firm’s grateful partners, staff, and clients.

Gerry had so many diverse interests.  He was an outdoorsman, an avid skier, and a mountain climber.  He was very handy and built many things over his life.  Gerry loved history.  He was a prolific art collector and donor.  Many of Lotenberg’s pieces from artists including Joel Meyerowitz, Helmut Newtown, Elliot Erwitt, and more, can be viewed in the collections of universities and museums across the country, including the University of Michigan’s Museum of Art, Baruch College’s Sidney Mishkin Gallery, and the Brooklyn Museum.  He was a supporter of the arts and various other causes, spending a significant amount of time volunteering, in addition to his charitable contributions.

Lotenberg was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  Later in life, he volunteered on the USS Intrepid at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, sharing his love of history and pride for his service and country with visitors.  For the last quarter century of his life, Lotenberg immersed himself in the study of history as an audit student at Columbia University.  He is survived by his wife, Selma, their children, Barry, Pam, and Gail, his grandchildren, Sienna, Lucas, Eliana, and Twyla, and his daughters-in-law, Lynne and Lisa, and son-in-law, Alejandro.
