Experience
Hal Zemel is a tax partner with nearly 25 years in public accounting and advises businesses in the real estate, manufacturing and distribution, retail, and advertising business sectors. He guides clients on the tax ramifications of various entities — partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, C corporations — and offers insights on choices tailored to their particular circumstances.
Hal is knowledgeable in the taxation of multistate corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies and the tax implications for planning and structuring dispositions, mergers, reorganizations, joint ventures, and other transactions. He assists counsel in preparing and negotiating tax-related documents including acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, and other transactions and represents clients in tax controversies before federal and state taxing authorities. Hal also provides litigation support services — interpreting the proper treatment of partnership agreements for income tax purposes.
Prior to joining Citrin Cooperman, Hal was a tax partner at Berdon LLP, which joined the firm in 2023. Prior to joining Berdon, he operated his own tax consulting practice.
