Robert Shuwarger is a consultant in Citrin Cooperman’s Los Angeles office. He has extensive experience in tax, business management, and litigation support matters with an emphasis in helping high net worth clients manage, grow, and preserve their assets.
As a consultant, Bob supports the continued growth of the firm’s West Coast practice with the goal of providing the highest-quality professional service, using best practices and customized strategies while maintaining continuity of his high-level, senior professionals.
Bob and his team focus primarily on families and their closely-held businesses. These activities include preparation of their personal tax returns, complex trust returns, real estate partnership and LLC tax returns, private foundation returns, income tax planning, business management services, preparation of personal financial statements, monitoring of established investment and insurance programs, consultation regarding significant personal and business transactions, development of accounting systems, day-to-day cash management including payment of bills and depositing of receipts, cash flow analyses, budgeting and internal controls, and recommendations regarding separation of duties to protect client assets.
Bob also has experience analyzing information relative to minority shareholder disputes, buy-sell concerns, uncovering concealed assets, and business valuations. He has dealt with community, quasi-community, and separate property issues including tracing of transactions, apportionment of community and separate property interests, commingling of separate and community property assets, Pereira-Van Camp considerations, transmutation agreements, and premarital and postnuptial agreements. Bob has been designated as an expert witness in various areas including divorce and tax attorney malpractice matters.
In the context of family concerns, Bob has been appointed and served as trustee and executor for numerous clients, many of which were estates in excess of $300 million. Bob has negotiated the sale of fine art, resulting in one piece of art selling for a world record of more than $100 million. His experience in large estates has given him extensive knowledge to help his clients navigate the intricate world of high-end philanthropic giving.
Prior to joining Citrin Cooperman in 2019, Bob was the founder of Shuwarger & Company LLP, a multi-dimensional tax and business management provider. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, a Big 4 accounting firm, where he gained experience in the areas of tax, trust and estate matters, and auditing, before establishing his own accountancy practice in 1984.
